Welcome to Drunken Boat's online submissions system. We accept submissions ONLY via this system. We do not read submissions sent to the editor's address or via snail mail. Artwork or media which the online system cannot support can be sent to editor@drunkenboat.com.

Please read the following guidelines:

Poetry: No more than 5 poems per year. The reading periods for poetry are June 1 to August 31 & January 1 to March 31.Submissions for poetry are now closed.

Fiction & Nonfiction: No more than 5000 words, unless you first query the genre editor via the editor's address.

Debt: A special section for poems that engage with debt: the friction between desire and limits, the intersection of ownership and obligation. Poems need not be limited to the political. No more than 3 poems.Please submit using "Debt" as the genre.

Librotraficante: A special section for work by creators of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, spoken word, and experimental/mixed media that honors our country’s Latino heritage. Submissions will be considered through this lens of cultural intersection as it pertains to the New Latino Renaissance. Please submit using "Librotraficante" as genre and indicate genre in the note field.The deadine is June 7th

You can expect a reply in about 3-4 months. We regret that, due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to give personalized criticism.
