James Provenchar
James Provencher was born in Portland, Maine 1945. He was educated at Dartmouth College, Stanford University, and the University of Maine. He was an Army Journalist (1968-70) and participated in the Artists in Education Program, Florida (1977-1981).  He has published poetry: Field and Live Rails.  His performance poetry has been heard on ABC Radio, Sydney, Australia and various venues. He has exhibited at the New Gallery, Sydney, 2004(Photography) and was the Featured Artist (www.bigprints.com.au), 2004-5; Stetson University

Note on Photographs
The Bushfire Series is selected from a longer series of photographs that were commissioned by VimInc's International TheatreLab Series convened in Sydney Australia, 2004.  The photographs document the thousand year event Fires of 2002 that swept through Australia's capital city, Canberra, taking nearly 600 homes.  These were the fiercest fires in Australia's bushfire history. These prints are sized at one by one and a third meters.

The Abstracts are from the Cooma Series and grew out of the Bushfire Series.  Heat from the fires crazed and tortured a variety of manmade surfaces deep in the Bush.  These photographs are rendered as glycee prints on matte canvas to enhance their trangible nature as abstract objects and are enlarged to three by four feet, with canvas wrapped.
