Martha Eleen
graduated with honours in painting from Emily Carr College
of Art in Vancouver, 1984. Her paintings have been exhibited in public
galleries in Canada and Mexico and are in private and public collections.
Her recent series of paintings, a work in progress, Into The (905); The
View From a Car evokes the moving gaze of the commuter passing through
the suburban landscape. The next stage of this work will be an intimate portrait
of a community in the suburbs: the people, interiors and surrounding landscape
. In the spring of 2006, Eleen will be Artist in Residence at Peace Village,
an Ahmadiyya Muslim subdivision outside Toronto . As well, she has recently
returned from Pouch Cove Artist Residency in Newfoundland. Eleen teaches
painting and drawing at Toronto School of Art.
