to heaven
dangling there
peeking thorough the woods
to that one patch of bright blue white
finally the beeping come
I'm free to stagger around and find the cat
black curled on the couch. He's been out all night
and naturally I'm concerned
20 hours out
I pat him as deep animal sounds of satisfaction
come up from his insides
I warm his joints with my hand
this is the most important thing in the world
